A record-breaking British classic

Directed by Mike Newell in 1994 from Richard Curtis' screenplay, the romantic comedy was made in just six weeks for under £3 million. It went on to become the highest-grossing British film in history at the time, earning over £218 million worldwide.

Stardom for Hugh Grant

The film stars Hugh Grant as Charles, a bumbling groom-to-be who keeps encountering Andie MacDowell's Carrie across four weddings and a funeral. The role earned Grant Golden Globe and BAFTA Best Actor awards and propelled him to international fame.

Awards and legacy

Four Weddings and a Funeral received Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. The film remains highly ranked in polls of the greatest British films and best comedies of all time.
