A 20-year-old man has been charged with the armed robberies of nine taxi drivers across Sydney, allegedly using a knife to demand cash. Police were first alerted after two robberies on 17 and 18 May in Ultimo, where a knife was used and cash stolen.
On 7 June, officers attended another armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo. The following day, three more robberies occurred in Glebe and Ultimo, with a knife produced but no cash taken. On 10 June, two further robberies in Surry Hills saw cash and property stolen.
Detectives from Sydney City Police investigated and linked the incidents. On the evening of 10 June, the suspect was taken to Day Street Police Station, interviewed, and charged with three counts of robbery with an offensive weapon, four counts of aggravated assault with intent to rob and inflict actual bodily harm, demand property with menaces with intent to steal, and dishonestly obtain financial advantage.
He was denied bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
