Every Year After: Percy's Betrayal with Sam's Brother

Prime Video fans are eager to uncover the root of the underlying feud between Percy and Sam in the new YA drama Every Year After. The series, based on Carley Fortune's bestselling novel Every Summer After, follows Persephone Fraser (Sadie Soverall) as she confronts her past.

Plot Overview

As a teenager, Percy spends summers in Barry's Bay, where she meets brothers Sam (Matt Cornett) and Charlie Florek (Michael Bradway). She and Sam form a close bond that slowly blossoms into romance over six years, but a mysterious incident drives them apart.

Years later, at age 28, Percy returns to Barry's Bay after learning of the brothers' mother's death. Forced to face her troubled history, the truth about what happened between her and Sam is gradually revealed.

The Big Secret

Percy's secret is that she slept with Sam's older brother, Charlie. This betrayal is central to both the book and the show, though the timing differs. In the series, the truth emerges in the present after Sam confesses his feelings for Percy, whereas in the novel, Charlie confesses first.

The official synopsis teases: "For six summers, Barry's Bay was a magical place full of firsts for Percy Fraser, including first love—and first heartbreak. Ten years later, an unexpected tragedy brings Percy back to Barry's Bay, where she has to face the people, memories, and mistakes she thought she'd left behind, especially the one boy who changed her life forever—Sam Florek."

All eight episodes of Every Year After Season 1 are now streaming on Prime Video.
