Emmerdale star confirms end of 'extreme' Caleb and Joe feud

William Ash has confirmed that the 'extreme' feud between Caleb Miligan and Joe Tate on Emmerdale has reached its conclusion. Speaking to Metro, the actor said the storyline had "gone as far as it can go now", but cautioned that more conflict is on the way in the village.

Kidney theft and sabotage

Tensions between Caleb and Joe escalated dramatically in recent months. Last year, viewers saw Joe steal his uncle Caleb's kidney. Caleb initially sought revenge, but after an apparent reconciliation with Kim Tate, hostilities reignited when Caleb plotted to destroy Joe's life by sabotaging his wedding ceremony.

His scheme took an unforeseen and fatal twist when Jimmy King drove his vehicle into the wedding marquee. Expectant mother Dawn Taylor was taken to hospital in premature labour, where she passed away following the delivery of her baby boy with Joe.

Buried alive and rescue

Joe, who refuses any involvement with his newborn son, is determined on vengeance. Most recently, he buried Caleb's wife Ruby Miligan alive in a disturbing development, then exploited the situation to torment Caleb, alerting him that Ruby was gradually dying while buried alive.

Fortunately, Graham Foster managed to rescue Ruby just in time. Afterwards, Caleb pledged to conclude their rivalry to safeguard his family.

Actor's warning of more conflict

Ash, 49, stated: "I think it's kind of gone as far as it can go now, hasn't it? You never know what the writers have in store, but it was pretty drastic, I think, that end bit."

He added: "Burying her alive and then not taking her to hospital afterwards – it's a bit extreme." The actor went on to say: "We've got some conflict coming up, I think. It gets a bit dull when everyone's getting on and everybody's having a nice time with each other. Hopefully real life is like that, but with Emmerdale you've got to have the conflict there, and that's the best stuff to play."

Emmerdale continues on weeknights at 8pm on both ITV and ITVX, with episodes also available to watch each day at 7am on ITVX.
