Emmerdale fans predict Sarah Sugden faces charges for Dr Todd murder

Emmerdale viewers believe they have worked out which character will be imprisoned for Dr Caitlin Todd's death, and it is not Charity Dingle. Villainous Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) met her demise in August when Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) accidentally killed her upon discovering she had assaulted her grandmother, Charity (Emma Atkins).

With assistance from Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), Charity subsequently accepted responsibility for the killing, maintaining it was self-defence. Yet Sarah recently discovered that her daughter, Leyla, is not her biological child but Charity's.

Surrogacy secret revealed

Viewers will remember Charity agreed to act as a surrogate for Sarah and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), however following a one-night encounter with Ross Barton (Mike Parr), she became pregnant and subsequently delivered the baby. In a desperate bid to hide her unfaithfulness, Charity chose to mislead everybody by insisting that the surrogacy arrangement she had entered into for Sarah and Jacob had been successful, reports the Daily Star.

While Leyla's actual parentage remained hidden from Sarah, Charity disclosed the reality last week, devastating Sarah who felt betrayed by the deception. This prompted her to alter her statement, alleging Charity murdered Dr Todd in cold blood.

Charity remanded in custody

Consequently, Charity has been remanded in custody and faces a potential murder conviction rather than manslaughter. During Friday's episode (September 11), Charity implored Cain (Jeff Hordley) to persuade Sarah to reconsider.

Regrettably, a furious Sarah remained resolute in her decision, determined to see Charity face consequences. However, viewers are now convinced that it will not be Charity who ends up facing charges for Todd's murder.

Fan predictions and actress hints

On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: "Is Charity leaving Emmerdale as there's no way of getting out of jail now?" Another predicted it could be Sarah who faces sentencing, writing: "She will get out when Sarah confesses, and hopefully, Sarah is leaving." A third concurred: "Yes, there is, as Sarah will be replacing her soon." Yet another added: "Sarah must own up."

Meanwhile, actress Katie Hill has dropped hints that further turbulence lies ahead. Katie revealed: "In Sarah's eyes, this is the end. I don't think she believes she will ever be able to forgive Charity. The dynamic between the two characters has shifted completely.

"Sarah is taking charge now, and while it's obviously devastating for Charity, Sarah just can't see a way past this. From this moment on, as awful as it sounds, Charity is essentially dead to her. She doesn't want Charity to have anything to do with her or Leyla. Sarah is setting very strict boundaries; she's nothing to her now."

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
