Emmerdale fans are concerned that the ITV soap may have overlooked Chas and Liam's nuptials, following their engagement last year. The couple's wedding plans appear to have been shelved, leaving viewers questioning if the storyline has been abandoned.
Chas and Liam's rocky romance
Lucy Pargeter, who has played Chastity "Chas" Dingle since 2002, is marking 13 years on the show. Her recent storylines have included the Valentine's limo crash, which resulted in the deaths of Amy Wyatt, Suzy Merton, and Leyla Harding.
In early 2023, Chas and Liam Cavanagh had a brief romance, during which Liam discovered a lump that led to Chas's breast cancer diagnosis. They paused their relationship while Chas underwent treatment, and Liam briefly dated Ella Forster. After Zak Dingle's death, the pair reconnected and became a couple.
Fans demand answers
During the Corriedale crossover with Coronation Street, Lucy Pargeter hinted at wedding plans to the Manchester Evening News. She said: "I don’t know. I don’t think it will happen soon, but I think it will eventually happen. I think we’re gonna need a bit of joy."
On a Reddit thread, u/key_recognition7830 asked: "May have missed it but are these two married? If not, then this is surely the longest engagement in Emmerdale." u/gardenawe replied: "They were supposed to get married in 2025 but then Ella happened and John and Aaron stole their wedding date because everything was already planned and paid or something. They seemed to have forgotten all about it," while u/short-face-9909 added: "I think their whole relationship was a plot device so that Robert could rock up at an outdoor wedding between Aaron and his half brother."
Dawn and Joe's dramatic wedding
While Liam and Chas's wedding may be on hold, Dawn and Joe Tate's wedding is set to take place later this month. However, the path to the altar is fraught with tension, as a secret kiss between Dawn and her ex-partner Billy has cast a shadow. Billy was later brutally attacked, with suspicion falling on Joe.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: "The run up to Dawn and Joe’s wedding will be far from straightforward but the week of the wedding is even more dramatic! The day will end in tragedy with the consequences having ramifications that will impact the villagers' lives for years to come."
