In a captivating new feature, acclaimed actress Emily Blunt has opened up about the unique dynamic of working with her real-life husband, John Krasinski, on their hit film A Quiet Place. The revelations came as she posed for a series of stunning photographs for ELLE's 2025 Women In Hollywood Celebration portfolio.
The Secret to a Successful On-Set Partnership
Blunt, 42, and Krasinski, 46, who have been married since 2010 and share two children, took their partnership to the big screen in the 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller. The actress confessed that she had initial doubts about her husband's capabilities as a director for the project.
'Before we started, I was like, 'Look, I'm thrilled to be doing this with you, but do you know how to shoot this movie? Because I don't know how to shoot a movie,'' Blunt recounted. She described Krasinski's response as both confident and humble, with him laughing and replying, 'I think I do know how to shoot it. I don't know why, but I think I do.'
The Mary Poppins Returns star went on to describe the experience of watching her husband discover his 'superpower' behind the camera as 'wild'. She emphasised that mutual respect was the cornerstone of their successful collaboration, stating, 'I think if we had done that movie and we didn't respect or admire each other, it would've been an absolute disaster.'
A Sizzling ELLE Photoshoot
For the celebratory issue, Blunt showcased a range of high-fashion looks that highlighted her sophisticated style. The shoot featured her in a dramatic strapless leather corset paired with a white tulle maxi skirt. She later wowed in a satin floral ensemble, followed by a structured white cropped jacket with a pleated skirt.
Further looks included a chic navy blue textured suit adorned with gold hardware and a striking finale of a black suit midi dress featuring an eye-catching white collar. Each outfit demonstrated the actress's versatility and commanding presence in front of the camera.
Jessie Buckle on Co-Star Chemistry and Female Directors
The ELLE celebration issue also spotlights actress Jessie Buckle, who looked sensational in a black dress. The 35-year-old star, who recently featured in the upcoming William Shakespeare film Hamnet alongside Paul Mescal, gushed about her on-set chemistry with her co-star.
'Sometimes you just have great chemistry with somebody on set, which allowed us to go wherever we needed to go,' Buckle explained. 'As friends, we knew we could hold all of that and we did. And more than any male co-star I've had, it was the fullest version of what that was.'
Reflecting on the film's themes of grief and love, she shared, 'I love love. Love is worth it. What else are you going to do? Lock yourself away? I think you've got to live.'
Buckle also discussed her experiences working with female directors, including Hamnet co-editor and director Chloé Zhao. While she noted it was never a 'conscious priority' to work with women directors, she acknowledged their profound impact.
'I have been seismically changed by women's singular language as directors,' she stated. 'The questions and the provocations and the characters—and the understanding of what it is to be a full life force, the complex spectrum of colors of a woman—is something that they have seeded in all of their movies.'
The December 2025/January 2026 issue of ELLE is available on newsstands from December 2, 2025, and is live now on ELLE.com.
