Elon Musk is on the verge of becoming the world's first trillionaire as SpaceX goes public, but the controversial businessman is also making headlines for his sprawling family and contentious opinions. With 14 known children and a £27 million compound in Texas, Musk's personal life is as complex as his corporate empire.
Musk's Pronatalist Stance
Musk has been vocal about falling birth rates, calling them 'the crisis' and urging others to have large families. He leads by example, but his unconventional family dynamics have drawn criticism from the mothers of his children.
Six Children with Justine Wilson
Musk's first wife, author Justine Wilson, shares six children with him. Their first child, Nevada Alexander, tragically died of SIDS at 10 weeks old. They later had twins Griffin and Vivian (formerly Xavier), and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian. Vivian, who is transgender, has publicly criticized Musk, saying he was absent during her childhood.
Children with Grimes
Musk and musician Grimes have three children: X AE A-Xii (nicknamed X), Exa Dark Sideræl (nicknamed Y), and Techno Mechanicus (nicknamed Tau). Grimes has spoken about the challenges of co-parenting with Musk, including a public plea regarding a child's medical crisis.
Children with Shivon Zilis
Musk and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis have twins Strider and Azure, as well as daughter Arcadia and son Seldon Lycurgus. Zilis announced Seldon's birth in February 2025, describing him as 'built like a juggernaut'.
Alleged 13th Child with Ashley St. Clair
Influencer Ashley St. Clair claims she gave birth to Musk's 13th child, Romulus, in 2024. She has filed for full custody and asked Musk to take a paternity test. St. Clair has also criticized Musk for his public attacks on his daughter Vivian.
The £27 Million Compound
To accommodate his large family, Musk spent £27 million on a 14,000-square-foot compound in Texas, designed to coordinate schedules with his children. Despite the lavish setup, the mothers of his children have expressed frustration with his parenting involvement.
