Pop star Dua Lipa and actor Callum Turner are celebrating their wedding in Palermo, Sicily, this weekend after exchanging vows in London last week. The couple arrived by private jet on Thursday and are staying at the five-star Villa Igiea hotel, where an entire floor has been booked for 200 guests. Expected attendees include Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Harry Styles, and Mark Ronson.
The celebrations have sparked mixed feelings among locals. While some are proud that the city was chosen for the nuptials, others criticise the road closures and security measures disrupting daily life. Concetta Chillemi, a shop owner near the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, said: 'Sometimes it feels as though the city is becoming a theme park.'
Clarissa, a bar worker, expressed admiration for Lipa’s music and activism but added: 'It’s not right to block the city – I could understand if it was for the pope, but not for a singer.' She noted that residents have been forced to park far away and walk to work for three days.
However, hotel worker Concetta Picciuca, a fan of Lipa, welcomed the event. 'It’s good for the economy,' she said. 'Perhaps people should come to work by bike instead of by car.' The wedding will move to Bagheria on Saturday, where the evening venue is the 18th-century Villa Valguarnera, used in the Netflix series Il Gattopardo.
