Fans of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have until Friday, May 7, to watch their acclaimed thriller Shutter Island on Amazon Prime Video before it leaves the platform. The film, set in the 1950s, stars DiCaprio as Teddy Daniels, a detective and World War II veteran haunted by his past.
Alongside his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), Teddy investigates the disappearance of a patient from Ashecliffe Hospital, a psychiatric institution on a remote island in Boston Harbour. The missing woman, Rachel Solando, murdered her three children, and the detectives face uncooperative staff and a looming hurricane as they unravel a sinister conspiracy.
As the investigation deepens, Teddy confronts dark memories, including visions of his deceased wife Dolores (Michelle Williams) and flashbacks to the liberation of Dachau concentration camp. The film earned a 69% critics' score and 77% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it an 'exquisitely crafted potboiler' and 'gleefully unapologetic genre thrills'.
