A mischievous dachshund has captured the hearts of the nation after a video of his defiant reaction to a telling-off from his owner went viral on social media.
The Cheeky Canine Caught on Camera
The hilarious incident was captured on a Ring doorbell camera and features a long-haired dachshund named Malco. In the clip, which has been viewed more than 240,000 times on TikTok, Malco can be seen scurrying across a room before launching himself at the lens.
His owner, watching remotely, immediately intervenes by using the camera's two-way audio feature. She is heard shouting, "Malco! No! Get down Malco!" However, the determined dog was completely undeterred by the command.
A Defiant Response
Instead of obeying, Malco doubled down on his antics. The tenacious pup continued jumping repeatedly at the doorbell, making concerted efforts to sink his teeth into the device. His owner explained the situation in the video's caption, writing, "I yell at him through the camera so he's trying to eat it. These dachshunds have attitude."
The footage clearly illustrates the breed's famous stubborn streak and playful nature. Malco's owner later admitted in the comments that the dog's behaviour, while funny, is also a source of worry, particularly regarding his back health.
Social Media Erupts with Laughter
The video quickly sparked a wave of amusement and relatable stories from other TikTok users. One person humorously noted the irony, commenting, "All the precautions in the world to protect their backs, then they go ahead and do this."
Another viewer joked that the scene looked like an AI-generated video but conceded it was "very real dachshund behaviour." Other dog owners shared their own similar experiences, with one revealing, "Yeah I had to mount mine to the ceiling after my dogs got to it and chewed it up."
Many were simply left in stitches, with one user stating, "I am actually laughing out loud, this is hilarious." Defending her playful pet, Malco's owner confessed, "No he’s actually hilarious! I had to cut the video because right after I couldn’t stop laughing!"
Understanding the Dachshund Breed
According to the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals), this behaviour is classic for the breed. The pet charity describes dachshunds as affectionate and playful dogs with a surprising amount of energy for their small size.
They are known for getting into mischief but are equally happy to curl up somewhere warm with their owner afterwards. The PDSA also highlights that dachshunds can live longer than most breeds and love to burrow into cosy spots.
The charity advises that while dachshunds generally get along well with children, owners should always be able to recognise their dog's body language and supervise interactions to prevent any stressful situations.
