Coronation Street fans were left in tears as Nina Lucas, played by Mollie Gallagher, bid an emotional farewell to Weatherfield in the episode aired on Sunday 30 August, now available on ITVX. Nina left the cobbles for Whitby to pursue a new job at an art gallery.
Nina's seven-year journey on the cobbles
Nina first appeared on the cobbles in 2019 as the niece of Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson. She is the daughter of Roy's half-brother, Richard Lucas, and after Richard's death, Roy welcomed Nina into his home. Over the years, the pair developed a strong bond, with Nina living above and working at Roy's Rolls.
Nina has been part of several major storylines, including the soap's hate crime storyline centring on Nina and Seb Franklin, who was killed off as part of the plot. Actress Mollie has since confirmed Nina's ITV soap future after her exit, revealing whether fans may see her return one day.
Emotional farewell scenes
After farewell drinks with friends at the Rovers, Nina paid tribute to Seb in his memorial garden, where she shared an emotional moment with Seb's mother Abi Franklin. Several residents gathered to watch Nina drive off with Roy, who took her to Whitby for her fresh start.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, soap watchers were left in tears over the moment. One person said: "Nina gonna miss her, lovely scene at the end #Corrie" with crying emojis, while another wrote: "Abi & Nina having a moment in Seb’s memorial garden such a beautiful scene! #Corrie" with a teary emoji.
Mollie Gallagher's next role
It was announced over the summer that Mollie, 28, would be leaving the cobbles after seven years. She has already landed her next role, making her professional stage debut as Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of Silence of the Lambs.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said at the time: "Mollie has created a unique and well loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go. It is fantastic for Mollie that she has been given this incredible opportunity to play such an iconic role and we wish her all the best for the theatre tour."
Coronation Street continues on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
