Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday's (June 13) episode now available on BBC iPlayer. The episode airs on BBC One at 8:35pm.
Rory's Condition Worsens
Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) was left upset to learn that soldier Rory Dickson (Gwïon Morris Jones) had taken a turn for the worse, prompting him to ask Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) to hold the fort in his absence.
Rory is a young soldier who Flynn suspected was being abused and hazed at his barracks by the sinister Colonel Bard (Mark Womack). Holby ED's Clinical Lead first encountered Rory when a fellow soldier was rushed to hospital after an explosion at Wyvern Hill Estate, built on a toxic waste dump. Flynn suspected historic bruising on Rory's back, but Bard intervened when questioned.
Rory later ended up in the ED after a military training exercise went awry, and Flynn speculated he was being abused by Bard. Bard ensured Rory wasn't left alone with Flynn, checking him out of the hospital. Last week, Rory returned with a self-inflicted injury.
Flynn Offers Support
Flynn offered to clean his wounds and provide support, prompting Rory to open up about the hazing and abuse. However, when Flynn was called away, Rory vanished. He was later brought into the ED after a serious accident.
Flynn, searching for the young soldier, raced back to Holby upon hearing of Rory's admission. He successfully resuscitated Rory using a bilateral thoracostomy. Stevie later informed Flynn that Rory was stable but on a ventilator.
A Twist in the Tale
In Saturday's episode, Flynn sprang into action when informed Rory had taken a turn, requiring urgent surgery. He leaned on Stevie for support, asking her to keep an eye on things.
Rory proved to be a fighter once more, pulling through and being declared out of the woods. However, Stevie faces serious trouble after a complaint was made against her by Dylan Keogh (William Beck), and as Clinical Lead, Flynn had to inform her.
Casualty airs Saturdays at 8:35pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
