Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro on Rom-Com Chemistry in One Night Only

Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro have spoken about their instant chemistry while filming the new romantic comedy One Night Only. The film, directed by Will Gluck of Anyone But You and Easy A fame, follows strangers Allie and Owen as they meet in a heightened version of New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex.

Barbaro told RTÉ Entertainment she was drawn to the unusual premise and the chance to work with Turner. 'Callum’s such a talented actor. I had admired his work on several of his projects,' she said. 'The film itself has such a great premise. It just grabs you and you can’t help but continue thinking about it.'

Turner praised Barbaro as 'an incredible actress' and said working with Gluck was a thrill. 'Will Gluck has made some of the greatest rom-coms ever, so I felt in completely safe hands,' he said. The trio 'hit it off immediately' and were able to be 'daring and stupid and full throttle' on set, which Turner called 'really liberating'.

The cast also includes Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton. Barbaro noted that the best rom-coms capture awkward, recognisable moments, and the team aimed to find 'the bits and pieces that made it feel like a real human experience'.

The pair recalled laughing through a night shoot involving a mannequin and an ATM, with Gluck encouraging them to 'remould the scene' as they filmed.
