The BBC has confirmed the cast for its upcoming adaptation of Kaliane Bradley's best-selling debut novel, The Ministry of Time. The series, described as 'genre-defying', will star Aoife Hinds as Sophy and Billy Howle as Commander Graham Gore. Filming is set to begin in and around London soon.
Cast and Characters
Aoife Hinds, known for her roles in Normal People and Derry Girls, will play Sophy, while Billy Howle, who appeared in The Perfect Couple, takes on the role of Commander Graham Gore, a Victorian polar explorer.
The story follows Sophy, a civil servant who is assigned to help a time traveller adapt to the modern world as part of a top-secret government programme. However, her professional relationship with Graham develops into an intense forbidden romance, putting them in danger as the Ministry's true intentions are revealed.
Synopsis and Author's Reaction
The synopsis reads: "The Ministry of Time is a newly established government department gathering 'expats' from across history in an experiment to test the viability of time-travel."
Author Kaliane Bradley expressed her excitement about the adaptation, saying: "If I could travel back in time six years to tell past me what was going to happen with that polar explorer she'd just started writing about, I think she would have done some very Victorian swooning."
BBC's Excitement
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added: "The Ministry of Time is a truly distinctive, genre-defying series with a beautiful central relationship and we are thrilled to have Aoife and Billy leading the cast."
Further details and casting for The Ministry of Time will be announced in due course.
