Arturo Calderon Gamino, who was arrested in 2009 after his then-wife Eleonor Alejandra Marin Mendoza kidnapped a newborn from a hospital, has reconciled with her and now has a son, according to the Netflix documentary A Child of My Own.
The Kidnapping and Acquittal
Alejandra, desperate to become a mother after numerous miscarriages, faked a full-term pregnancy at age 26 without Arturo's knowledge. In June 2009, she kidnapped a baby girl from the hospital where she worked and presented the newborn to Arturo in a large gift bag. Hours later, both were arrested, and the baby was returned to her mother.
After spending two years in prison, Arturo was acquitted of any wrongdoing. Alejandra, who was released in 2023, shared during filming that she and Arturo briefly broke up because he still had a "desire" to have children, which he admitted was "engrained" in him and didn't think it would "ever go away."
Reconciliation and a New Chapter
Alejandra, who didn't want to go through pregnancy or more treatments again, disclosed that Arturo was briefly in another relationship during this time, which resulted in the birth of his son. But this wasn't the end for them, as she said: "Arturo came looking for me. We talked and he told me everything that had happened. He told me that he missed me a lot, that he loved me, and that he wanted me to be in his life. That we should try again and I decided to give it a try."
The final scenes of A Child of My Own show Arturo and Alejandra playing with his young son in a park. He previously remarked: "With a child, your last name and your lineage continues and whatever you want them to carry on. I would indeed like to have a child."
