From Broadway to Cult Classics
Winter began his career as a child actor on Broadway, appearing in The King and I with Yul Brynner. He made his big-screen debut opposite Charles Bronson in 1985's Death Wish 3. In 1987, he played Marko, the peroxide-haired vampire biker, in The Lost Boys, and later starred as Bill S Preston Esq in the Bill & Ted films alongside Keanu Reeves.
His other acting credits include the role of poet and physician John William Polidori in 1988's Haunted Summer. He also co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in the 1993 cult comedy Freaked.
Behind the Camera and Back to the Stage
Winter has spent much of his career directing. He wrote and directed the psychological thriller Fever in 1999, starring Henry Thomas, and has made documentaries on topics including the dark web, child stardom, and Frank Zappa. In 2020, he reunited with Reeves for a third Bill & Ted film, and in 2025, he played Vladimir opposite Reeves's Estragon in Waiting for Godot on Broadway.
