A former contestant on ITV's The 1% Club has shared his experience of meeting host Lee Mack, describing him as 'exactly how you expect him to be'. Ryan Alexander appeared on the show, which tests the intelligence of 100 contestants through logic, reasoning and common sense questions.
Speaking about his time on the programme, Ryan recalled his struggle with a word-based puzzle in the final round. 'My brain doesn't focus very well on words and things, and it was basically a question about clocks and what word was represented,' he said. 'I ended up running out of time.'
Despite not winning, Ryan described the experience as 'surreal' and 'fantastic'. He added that being part of the show was valuable in itself, even though the cash prize would have been an additional bonus. He also noted that his family held a watch party when the episode aired.
Ryan praised Lee Mack for his approachable and caring demeanour. 'He was laughing and joking between the questions, he was asking people a bit more about their stories, and then at the end, when obviously I wasn't successful, he'd come over and commiserate,' Ryan said. 'Lee wasn't just there to do a job, he actually seemed to care.'
Ryan also shared that he was recognised in a Morrison's supermarket and at a wedding after his appearance on the show. The 1% Club, hosted by Lee Mack, has been airing on ITV since 2022.
