Zoe Saldaña has revealed that her three children have not yet seen any of the Avatar films, despite her starring in the franchise. Speaking at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash in Los Angeles, the actress told E! News that her sons, 11-year-old twins Cy and Bowie, and eight-year-old Zen, are not ready to watch the movies.
“I want them to be able to experience Avatar when they are absolutely ready,” Saldaña said. “My boys are gentle. They’re beautiful flowers. They’re resilient like you wouldn’t imagine, but they pace themselves, and I respect them for that.”
Instead, her children prefer comedies, particularly those starring Adam Sandler, which Saldaña noted are sometimes inappropriate for their age. They have seen some of her other films, including a Guardians of the Galaxy movie and have recently started watching Transformers.
Saldaña added that her older sons have promised to watch Avatar in about a year. The latest installment, Fire and Ash, follows the success of 2009's Avatar, the highest-grossing film ever with $2.9 billion, and its 2022 sequel The Way of Water, which earned $2.3 billion.
The actress previously credited her children with helping her maintain a youthful appearance by encouraging better sleep habits. In a 2022 interview with People, she said having children “saved me a lot” from her previous work-hard, play-hard lifestyle.
