Zoe Ball apologised to Alex Jones after bringing up a Strictly Come Dancing Samba that left The One Show host visibly cringing. The pair were recording an episode of the Dig It podcast with Jo Whiley when the conversation turned to Ball's recent record shopping.
Both women have appeared on the BBC dance contest in different years. Ball reached the final with Ian Waite in 2005, while Jones finished fifth in 2011.
Dream shop in Majorca
Ball revealed that she had found her "dream shop" in Majorca, a store selling both wine and records. She showed Jones a copy of Antônio Carlos Jobim's Terra Brasilis and explained: "He did all that kind of music which is Brazilian, Samba, kind of."
She then asked: "Don't you remember the Samba on Strictly back in the day?"
'Most horrendous one minute 30'
Jones immediately winced at the memory, burying her face in her hands and saying: "Oh don't, the Samba, it was the most horrendous one minute 30 of my life that was."
"I'm sorry for bringing that up," Ball replied, chuckling, before asking listeners for recommendations for books and films.
Strictly presenting audition
As well as competing on Strictly, Ball later presented its spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two. More recently, she auditioned to become one of the new hosts of the main programme after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman left, but was ultimately rejected.
Discussing the rejection on her podcast, she said: "I didn't get it, but it's okay. I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days."
She added: "I tell you what, if who I think has got it, we're in safe hands and our new hosts are going to be fabulous."
It was later confirmed that Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe had been chosen as the new presenters. Jones had also been reported to be among the frontrunners, along with Rylan Clark, Bradley Walsh and Angela Scanlon.
Following the BBC's announcement, Jones reacted in the comments on Instagram, writing: "Huge congratulations to the three of you!" with red heart and applause emojis.
Deal or No Deal tonight
Ball takes on the banker in tonight's Deal or No Deal: Celebrity Special, playing for her chosen charity. The episode airs at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
