Kim Kardashian defends festive post after grandmother's death

Kim Kardashian has addressed criticism after sharing holiday photographs shortly after the death of her grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell. The reality star and businesswoman faced questions over the timing of the Instagram post, which was captioned “lake life” and appeared within the same hour that her mother, Kris Jenner, announced the family’s loss.

Responding to comments, Kardashian explained that the images had been scheduled before her grandmother’s passing. She wrote: “This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing. I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now. We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life.”

She later paid tribute to her grandmother in a separate post, describing her as “my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin” and praising her as a “hardworking businesswoman” who gave Kardashian her first job at a store in San Diego. She added: “You truly were the matriarch of our family, and your love is woven into all of us. I know you’re at peace now. Give Papa Harry, Aunt Karen, and my dad a hug for me. YOU ARE THE BEST OF US!!!”

In announcing her mother’s death, Kris Jenner said her heart was “broken into a million pieces” and paid tribute to MJ as “the heart of our family”. She wrote: “My mom was the heart of our family. She taught me everything that truly matters… to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”

Mary Jo Campbell, who was 91, appeared in the original Keeping Up With The Kardashians series from 2007 to 2021 and also featured in the follow-up series, The Kardashians. Her death was confirmed by Kris Jenner in a statement that thanked her mother for “every sacrifice she made” and every “piece of wisdom” she shared.
