Ellie Goulding Opens Up About 'Turbulent' End of Marriage to Caspar Jopling

Ellie Goulding has spoken candidly about the breakdown of her five-year marriage to art dealer Caspar Jopling, describing the period as a 'turbulent time' in her life. The singer, 38, announced her separation from Jopling in February 2024, with both emphasising their commitment to co-parenting their son Arthur, now four.

In a new interview with NME, Goulding reflected on the emotional aftermath of the split, which she described as 'a separation of all separations'. She said: 'It was a marriage, not just a relationship. I didn't know what else to do other than make music.' The singer admitted that no one can be 'strong enough' to deal with the end of a marriage, likening it to a grieving process where you lose not only the person but also 'the life that was projected for you'.

Goulding channelled her emotions into her upcoming album, particularly the track Destiny, which she first heard shortly after the separation. She described the process of healing as gradual but triumphant: 'Little by little, starting to feel it less... it’s been a process of everyday feeling a little bit better. That to me was such a victory.'

The singer is now expecting her second child with boyfriend Beau Minniear, whom she confirmed dating in September 2025. Minniear also starred in the music video for Destiny, released earlier this year. Goulding and Jopling married in 2018 after announcing their engagement that same year.
