Donald Trump's hair has long been a subject of speculation, with theories ranging from wigs to scalp reduction surgery. Now, author Michael Wolff claims to know the truth: Trump is completely bald.
Michael Wolff's claim
On the Daily Beast podcast Inside Trump's Head, Wolff said, "Well, I can tell you what's under Donald Trump's hair, and what is under Donald Trump's hair is nothing." He gestured to his own bald head, asserting that Trump's scalp resembles his.
Wolff noted that Trump's hair remains unaffected by strong winds or helicopter downdraft, attributing this to hairspray that "cemented down" the style. He suggested that Trump's hairstyle is a key element of his "identity and career."
Ivanka's alleged mockery
In his book Fire and Fury, Wolff claimed that Trump's daughter Ivanka would "make fun of his combover to others." He reiterated this in the podcast, calling it the "greatest combover of all time."
Wolff also alleged that Trump used a product called "Just for Men" to maintain his hair color, but "impatience resulted in Trump's orange-blond hair colour."
Scalp reduction surgery claims
Perhaps the most striking claim is that Trump had scalp reduction surgery in 1989. In a 1990 divorce deposition, his late ex-wife Ivana Trump alleged that plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Hoefflin performed the procedure, along with waist and chin liposuction.
Harry Hurt III wrote in Lost Tycoon that the recovery was painful, with Trump suffering "nagging headaches caused by the shrinking of the scalp, and the pain of the initial incision." Trump has never confirmed the surgery.
Scalp reduction is rarely performed today, typically reserved for extreme alopecia or traumatic burns. According to The Private Clinic, the procedure involves removing a section of skin from the scalp and sewing it back together to stretch skin with healthy hair follicles, giving the impression of a fuller head of hair.
