Vogue Williams has revealed the unorthodox name she originally chose for her unborn son before worried family members stepped in. The Irish presenter, 40, will welcome her fourth child with former reality TV star husband Spencer Matthews, 38, in a matter of weeks, but her wish to name the child after one of America's rock n' roll greats was instantly vetoed by her in-laws, entrepreneur David Matthews and his artist wife, Jane.
Elvis as a Baby Name
Discussing the issue with close friend Joanne McNally on the My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast, Vogue - mum to children Theodore, seven, Gigi, five, and Otto, three, with Spencer - admitted she had her heart set on calling their latest addition Elvis.
She said: “Do you know what? Big news from my week this week. We have changed our baby name – we have no name. You know the name was pretty full on and I loved the name. Spenny has been getting a few phone calls from family members regarding the name, yeah yeah...”
Family Concerns and Change of Heart
Playing the incident for laughs, Joanne joked: "I just don’t think Gary is that controversial," with Vogue continuing: “I honestly thought though because it’s been on my mind I just, I haven’t ever been 100 per cent comfortable with it.
“But because as much as I love the name it’s such a big name to take on when you’re little or trying to get a job when you’re older. I have got other very cool options, though that was my favourite name. We were going to call the baby Elvis, I love it”.
Gender Reveal and Pregnancy News
The admission comes just days after Vogue announced the gender of her unborn child with Instagram followers. The tot will be their third son and the heavily pregnant presenter is expected to give birth later this month.
In a short social media video, Vogue asks Spencer: "Will we say what we're having?," to which he replies: "We know, obviously. Have you not told people?” The camera then pans to son Theo and daughter Gigi as the pair ask their children to guess their unborn sibling's gender. As Gigi shouts: "A boy!" Vogue confirms the news. "We're having another," she told followers, with Spencer joking: "We're owed a nice sensitive soul." She then asked her followers to send the pair name suggestions in the comments sections. The news they were expecting again was revealed in April.
Prank on Co-Host
Before leaving her Heart Breakfast role last week for her maternity leave, Vogue played a huge prank on her co-host Jamie Theakston. She managed to convince him she was going into labour, leaving him in a frenzy.
The pregnant presenter secretly burst a water balloon underneath her desk as they were about to go on air. She put on a brilliant performance to keep him hooked in for as long as possible. “Oh my God!” she exclaimed as she started leaning on her desk as Jamie rushed over to see what the issue was. As he asked her if she was alright, Vogue managed to play along even when Jamie went into crisis mode.
“We'll go downstairs and get a taxi out the back,” he yelled as she made her way to the door. “Oh my God, what are we gonna do?” he asked before yelling: “Where's Spenny at the moment?”, referring to her husband. "I don't know... I don't know where he is," she told her worried co-star. Vogue then told Jamie she had no idea how she was going to make it downstairs and to the hospital. "I don't know how I'm going to walk down to a car," she said. "You might have to literally wheel me on this chair."
As Jamie continued to pace the floor and try to comfort his co-star, she eventually broke character. A team member said to him "one thing Jamie" before a loud bang filled the studio with confetti. As the penny dropped that he had been pranked, Jamie gasped: "Oh, you're kidding me!"
