A mother who ordered a toy for her son on Vinted was left astonished when the item arrived in packaging originally used for an antidepressant medication. The story has since gone viral, amassing more than 1.2 million views on social media platform X.
Unexpected Delivery Sparks Online Frenzy
The user, identified only as 'Ells' online, shared two photographs of her Vinted parcel on X, showing the toy packaged inside a box for Sertraline, a commonly prescribed antidepressant also known by the brand name Zoloft. Sertraline belongs to the SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) class of drugs and works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain to help regulate mood, sleep, and emotion.
Ells captioned the post: "Sorry but can I share how I received a Vinted parcel today (toy for my son)." The post quickly gained traction, with users expressing a mix of shock and amusement.
Reactions Range from Hilarious to Relatable
One commenter exclaimed: "Sorry, but this is hilarious." Another wrote: "Not going to lie, I've done this with one of them big tic tac boxes before." A third user remarked: "This is the sort of stunt I'd pull," while a fourth added: "I'm not utilising my full Vinted potential."
After some skeptics suggested the post was staged, Ells confirmed it 'wasn't staged' and added: "The pharmacist in me appreciates that they took the label off at least."
Vinted's Growing Popularity in the UK
Vinted, a platform for buying and selling second-hand items, boasts 17 million active users in the UK alone, having roughly doubled its domestic user base in recent years. It now attracts more UK customers than almost every major high-street retailer, with only Next and Primark ahead of it. The platform's success underscores the growing trend of online marketplace usage for pre-owned goods, which not only helps reduce expenses but also contributes to waste reduction.
As one observer noted, the incident serves as a reminder for sellers to choose more appropriate packaging for their items.
