Daphne Govers, the ex-wife of three-time darts world champion Michael van Gerwen, and her new partner Robert have revealed they are expecting a baby next month. In a candid interview with Dutch television programme Shownieuws, Robert admitted he 'pulled a trick' on Van Gerwen, having known Govers for a long time before her separation from the darts star in May.
Robert said: 'That's when the spark ignited. It wasn't the intention, but it happened. We didn't want to offend anyone... It turned out a little differently than expected.' He stressed he has respect for Van Gerwen, with whom he crosses paths due to custody arrangements for Van Gerwen and Govers' two children, Mike and Zoe.
Govers described the pregnancy as a 'miracle', saying she could not have conceived naturally. She acknowledged a 'mistake was made' on her part but preferred to keep the story private. When asked about Van Gerwen's feelings on her pregnancy, she said: 'I wouldn't dare say. I don't think very happy, but I really don't know.'
Van Gerwen, 36, has described 2025 as the 'worst year of his life', also citing his father Henri's cancer diagnosis. He is currently competing in the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, having advanced to the fourth round after a 4-1 victory over Arno Merk. Following the win, he said: 'In patches I played some really good darts... you know you're capable of doing more.'
