Michael Wolff, author of several books about Donald Trump, has revealed that Trump's executive assistant Natalie Harp wrote "love notes" to the president, using language that suggested "punishing" her. The notes reportedly caused a "major kerfuffle" among White House staff and the Secret Service.
Notes described as 'love letters'
Speaking to journalist Joanna Coles on the Daily Beast's Inside Trump's Head, Wolff said: "In my book, in All or Nothing, I, you know, I produce a set of notes that she (Harp) had written, the president, I mean, love letters in which everybody was in a major kerfuffle over this, including the Secret Service."
He added that the notes were seen as a potential danger: "Warning the president of the United States - or warning aides to the president whose job it was then to bring to the president, whether they did or not, that they saw her as a danger to herself and to him."
'You are all that matters to me'
Harp, in her 30s, has been dubbed the "nappy nurse" by social media users, following reports of her close bond with Trump. Last month, an explosive book by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, Regime Change, alleged that Harp left private messages for the president in "personal spaces". In one, she reportedly wrote: "You are all that matters to me."
Her proximity to Trump, 80, has sparked baseless "diaper nurse" and "side piece" taunts online, stemming from speculation about their relationship.
'Human printer' and 'Alpha and Omega'
Wolff claimed that everything Trump reads is "funnelled through Natalie Harp", who he called the "human printer" for trailing Trump with a printer to supply documents. He asserted she would print out "laudatory" information for Trump, but also included personal notes.
"But in this pile of papers, she's also frequently includes personal notes to him and notes that, you know, you're the Alpha and the Omega, the be all and end all. What would I be without you? And then weird kind of language of...which kind of suggests him punishing her. I don't know, I'm not even going to go there," Wolff said.
Motivational or romantic?
Joanna Coles suggested the notes might be "motivational love notes", but Wolff disagreed, theorising that they suggested she wanted to "climb into bed" with the president. He added: "She doesn't say this, but I think that's the tone of this - 'I love you. I exist because of you. I exist only in your shadow'."
