Maddy Smedley, who found fame on the first series of The Traitors, has announced she is pregnant with her second child. The 33-year-old actress, already mother to two-year-old Shelby with partner Tom Greenwood, shared the news on social media on Sunday.

Alongside a photo of herself, her partner and daughter holding the scan picture, she wrote on Instagram: "Coming soon. Baby no. 2, we are so blessed and we can’t wait to meet you already. Hi, they are waving like Shelby did in her scan or maybe doing a dramatic pose. xx over the moon xx."
Fellow celebrities were quick to congratulate her. Stephen Libby, who won Traitors earlier this year alongside Rachel Duffy, said: "Congratulations Maddy." Scarlett Moffatt, currently pregnant with her second child, commented: "Huge congratulations," with a red heart emoji. Ned Porteous, who stars as Joe Tate on Emmerdale, wrote: "Ahhh! Yes, mads congratz," and GK Barry added: "Congrats, gorgeous queen." Former Traitors stars Harriet Tyce and Roxy Wilson also sent messages.
Career Since The Traitors
Since appearing on Claudia Winkleman's BBC game show, Maddy has built her acting career with roles in EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Casualty and Call The Midwife. In 2025, she joined the cast of ITV2 sitcom Piglets alongside Sarah Parish and Mark Heap.
While filming her role as Faye Fuller on Hollyoaks, Maddy was pregnant with her first child. She recently told The Mirror she felt "really lonely" during that time, saying: "I really did enjoy my time in Hollyoaks. I think because I was pregnant, it was a difficult time in terms of like...when you're staying in hotels and stuff. Even though I had Shelby with me I felt really lonely but that was just because you're going through a lot but I really did enjoy it and I'd never say no to doing all [the soaps]."
Balancing Parenthood and Acting
Earlier this year, Maddy appeared on stage in a new production of Educating Rita. She explained that parenthood remains a challenge to navigate as a working actress, and she must be careful about which opportunities she takes to ensure she is there for her daughter. She joked that her daughter was not impressed with the Liverpudlian accent she had to learn for the part made famous by Dame Julie Walters.
She added: "It's really hard. It's a hard juggle because it's like two jobs and my main one is obviously my daughter but then I could only say yes to this sort of theatre job because, say, if it was a year-running one, I'd hardly ever see her. I would hate that. I've been practising the accent for her when I read some of her stories! And she always goes, 'Mummy, do it properly'. So she doesn't like me doing the Liverpudlian. So I'm reading like The Gruffalo and all stuff like that in this Liverpudlian accent of mine, as Rita. She wasn't too impressed with that. But I can't wait, I've got a few more weeks of this show. Like, I am enjoying it. but I am excited to go back to normal and see her."
