Tommy Fury has faced backlash after making controversial comments about Kim Kardashian's childcare arrangements, with critics branding his remarks 'degrading' and 'out of touch'.
The 27-year-old boxer, who shares two children with Molly-Mae Hague, discussed the reality star's team of nannies on his podcast with his father, John Fury. The clip, posted on Instagram, has since garnered 90,000 views and sparked a wave of criticism.
Podcast Comments
During the episode, Tommy read out a talking point: '10 nannies and mannies raising Kim Kardashian's kids.' John Fury responded: 'If you can't look after these kids yourself, don't have them.' Tommy added: 'I mean, 10 nannies...' before his father interjected: 'It's ridiculous. In my family, there was a lot of us. My mother looked after us, all by herself.'
Tommy then noted: 'If you've got money, you can afford a nanny. It's not a cheap thing, is it?' He went on to research how many children Kim has, reading out: 'She's only got four kids! But they're not all working at the same time; they're kind of on a rotation, in shifts. I guess we don't know the full story, though.'
Defending His Own Parenting
Tommy clarified that he is 'all for having some help on board', saying: 'Me and Molly, we have help, but we're with Bambi every day, all day. It's only if I've gotta go on a call, or Molly's on a call, or whatever like that, or we've gotta shoot out, the baby's looked after all the time. But I don't understand people who just dump their kids with nannies and mannies all day, then don't see them. I don't understand that.'
Online Backlash
Social media users quickly came to Kim's defence. One user, @katherinebbbbbb, wrote that the discussion felt 'so out of touch', adding: 'of course she needs support, and she can afford it'. Another, @robinbrouillette, described the clip as 'two dudes explaining away motherhood'. @cmafanlorraine3 said Kim's kids seem 'happy' and that she does 'spend time' with them. @ceoangelworks declared: 'The audacity!', while @aprilnperez sarcastically commented: 'Men judging women. What a concept.'
Others pointed out that the 'team' of nannies is for the entire Kardashian family, which includes sisters Khloe, Kim, Kourtney, and Kylie, who have children of their own. Users also reminded the Fury duo that Kim is a 'single parent' who shares her children with ex-husband Kanye West, who she previously said sometimes doesn't see them for 'months'. @a.i.stewart remarked: 'A man with a full time nanny judging a woman with a full time nanny.'
Molly-Mae's Nanny Admission
Late last year, Molly-Mae confessed to having a nanny, admitting she had felt 'a bit scared to talk about it'. In her Amazon Prime reality show Behind It All, she said: 'There's always been a bit of speculation about Bambi's childcare and me having a nanny. But I never knew what such of a big thing it was going to become. I guess I just shied away from it. I got a bit scared to just talk about it, honestly.'
She explained that she stayed quiet to avoid upsetting anyone or causing controversy, but having a nanny has allowed her to 'keep working and build [her] businesses and also create the life [she] wants to create for Bambi'.
