Hollywood star Tom Holland has shared his true thoughts on the England team and their chances of winning as they go head to head against Norway in the World Cup quarter-final tonight.
Tom Holland may be a Hollywood star but he's not forgotten his British roots. As the England team prepare to take on Norway in today's quarter-final match of the World Cup, the actor has shown his support. While on the press tour of his latest project, The Odyssey, in London earlier this week, the 30-year-old actor was all praise for footballers Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham after their win against Mexico.
He told reporters: "Jude Bellingham, what a guy! I think our team last night really, really showed themselves as a unit." He continued: "I think Harry Kane is an absolute legend and I got a lot of faith." And when asked by a reporter if he believed England stood a chance of winning the World Cup, ending years of near misses, he added: "I've always been confident."
Tom Holland and Zendaya's Marriage and New Film
Tom, 30, confirmed he married actress Zendaya last month and have since been immersing themselves in PDA, especially as they embark on the tour of The Odyssey, which they both star in. Zendaya plays Athena, the goddess of wisdom, warfare and handicraft, while Tom plays Telemachus, Odyssey's son and the prince of Ithaca.
When asked if he had learnt anything from working so closely with his wife, he told Entertainment Tonight: "To be confident and be bold. She makes big choices when she plays characters." He added: "She's not afraid to create the characters and she does it in a way where they feel like real people." He continued: "She makes big, bold choices. I think there are a few actors who can do it as well as she can, and I love watching her do it."
Zendaya's Reaction to Co-Starring with Husband
Zendaya shared how she didn't imagine they'd both be cast in the same film. She told Extra: "I remember when he got the call, I was, like, absolutely over the moon, so excited, so proud. And then never did it… cross my mind that a second call would be coming to our home, you know? So, that was so special." She then went on to say: "And yeah, just to be able to share something like that and watch him work in this context… It's the dream... It's absolutely the dream. So, I was happy."
Tom Holland's Meeting with Director Chris Nolan
Tom then spoke about how he felt in the moment when director Chris Nolan asked if he would mind working with his wife. He recalled: "At my meeting with Chris he asked me a question. He said, 'Would you be offended if I asked Zendaya to play Athena?' I was like, 'Why would I be offended?' And then I asked him, 'Do you want me to tell her.' And he said, 'Yeah.' And I went home and I said, 'You should read the script again.' And she said, 'I already read it'. And I said, 'Just read it again, but read Athena really closely. And the little corners of her mouth [makes a smile on his own face]. It was amazing."
