Savannah Guthrie has issued another emotional appeal for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, as the search for the 84-year-old passes the four-month mark. The Today show anchor took to Instagram on Sunday, sharing a painting of Jesus Christ alongside the words: “Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out.” In a separate caption, she wrote: “Bring her home” with a yellow heart emoji.
It has now been 127 days since Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in the Tucson area of Arizona. Authorities believe she was abducted. Investigators discovered drops of blood on her porch and recovered DNA from a glove found two miles away. The glove initially appeared to match one worn by a suspect in surveillance footage from the night she vanished, but it was later discredited after being traced to a restaurant worker.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1m reward for information leading to Nancy’s return, while the FBI has put up $100,000 for conclusive details. The search continues for a man approximately 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall with an average build. No arrests have been made.
In a tearful interview in March, Savannah Guthrie described the agony of not knowing her mother’s whereabouts, telling her colleague Hoda Kotb: “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night.” She added: “In the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.”
Guthrie returned to the Today show in April, saying: “It’s good to be home … Ready or not, let’s do the news.” She was greeted by fans outside NBC’s studio in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza and thanked them for their support, saying: “You guys have been so beautiful … I’ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers. So, thank you so much.”
