Comedian and composer Tim Minchin has come under fire for remarks about marriage made during a recent podcast appearance. The 42-year-old Australian, known for his work on the musical 'Matilda', discussed his views on the institution of marriage, leading to criticism from listeners who accused him of being dismissive.
In the podcast, Minchin reportedly questioned the necessity of marriage, suggesting that it is an outdated concept. He stated that he and his wife, Sarah, a social worker, have a strong relationship without needing the legal recognition. However, some listeners interpreted his comments as undermining the significance of marriage for many people.
Minchin, who lives in Los Angeles with his family, has not publicly responded to the backlash. His representatives declined to comment. The controversy comes as Minchin prepares to relocate to Sydney, Australia, with his family at the end of the year.
The comedian has been vocal on social issues, recently releasing a song titled 'I Still Call Australia Homophobic' criticising his home country's stance on same-sex marriage. He expressed frustration over the postal survey on the issue, calling it harmful to the LGBT community.
