Tim Curry, the actor famed for his roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has died at the age of 80. According to TMZ, Curry passed away on Tuesday (August 25) at his Los Angeles home. Police responded to his house just before 11.30pm and believe no foul play is suspected in the case.
Career Beginnings and Breakthrough
The Cheshire native began his career in the West End production of the musical Hair, which ran from 1968 to 1969. He soon received widespread praise for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the musical The Rocky Horror Show.
After playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage between 1973 and 1975, Curry was cast as him in the film adaptation of the musical. He starred in it alongside the likes of Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.
Hollywood Stardom and Notable Roles
Becoming a bona fide Hollywood star, he appeared in Annie as Rooster Hannigan, Darkness in Legend, and Clue in the 1980s. In 1992 he famously went toe to toe with Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Known for his unique facial expressions, Curry also starred in The Three Musketeers, Muppet Treasure Island, Addams Family Reunion, The Hunt for Red October, Congo, Charlie's Angels and Scary Movie 2.
Stage Recognition and Awards
Always showing his love of the stage, he earned three Tony Award nominations, for his work in Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Spamalot. He was also nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his roles as The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance and King Arthur in Spamalot.
