Tim Curry, the actor known for his iconic role as Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80. His death was confirmed to the press in America by his long-time agent, Marcia Hurwitz.
Death Confirmed After Health Struggles
The news broke just after 4.30pm UK time on Wednesday, with the British star passing away at his home in Los Angeles. He had been suffering from serious health issues for more than 10 years.
The announcement came less than 24 hours after an outpouring of global sadness over the passing of music icon Dolly Parton.
Career From Stage to Screen
Born in Cheshire in 1946, Curry began his career on stage in the West End production of Hair. His theatrical work earned him nominations for a series of Olivier and Tony Awards.
For many fans, his big-screen performances will be most remembered. In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he delivered one of the most iconic movie musical performances of all time as Dr Frank-N-Furter. His role as the concierge at the Plaza Hotel in Home Alone 2 also brought him to millions of movie fans worldwide in scenes with Macaulay Culkin.
Other film roles included villain Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers and Gomez Addams in Addams Family Reunion. His TV credits ranged from Will & Grace to Return to Cranford.
