The Voice viewers praise Sir Tom Jones at 85

The Voice UK viewers were left making the same observation about Sir Tom Jones' appearance as another round of blind auditions commenced. In a preview clip from tonight's episode, shared on Instagram, Sir Tom reflected on being 85 and still able to perform.

The show's newest coach, Kelly Rowland, began by noting, "85 years young," to which Sir Tom responded, "Oh, 85 years young." As the audience applauded, Kelly observed, "You've seen, heard so much. You have been around the world how many times? You know what I mean?" Sir Tom nodded, confirming, "A lot."

Sir Tom's Voice Still Strong

He went on to acknowledge, "I just love the fact that I can still sing." Kelly responded, "Amen. Your voice changes, and it continues to evolve. But yours is so strong, when you're singing, it is so strong."

Fans flooded the comments section to praise Sir Tom and how impressive he looks and sounds at 85 years old. One wrote, "Sir Tom is sensational, his voice is truly phenomenal. Seeing him in concert is mind-blowing; he is breathtaking. Can't wait to see this." Another said, "This darling man is a NATIONAL TREASURE! We are so lucky to have him on."

Emotional Moment with will.i.am

Someone else added, "How amazing does he look for 85?" One went on, "In his 80s and still has a voice like that. Incredible." In another clip, will.i.am broke down in tears as he branded Sir Tom a "gift". Sir Tom also got emotional as he said, "I cherish everybody in this room."

The praise is all the more remarkable given that Sir Tom has battled a number of health issues over the years, yet has continued to perform well into his eighties.

Health Battles and Recovery

One of his most significant challenges has been with his hips. He had his left hip replaced in 2017, and five years later revealed that his right hip had also deteriorated, with doctors advising him to undergo a second replacement. Ever the entertainer, he joked at the time that he had been trying to fit the operation around his busy touring schedule.

In November 2022, he confirmed the second procedure had gone well, telling fans he now had "two new hips" and was undertaking physiotherapy during his recovery. More recently, in July 2025, Sir Tom was forced to postpone a concert in Bremen, Germany, after developing an upper respiratory infection that required treatment and rest. He subsequently returned to performing, including an appearance at Camp Bestival in Dorset.

The Voice UK airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.
