The Inbetweeners is set to make a comeback on Netflix, with all four main stars expected to reprise their roles. However, Emily Atack's return as Charlotte Hinchcliffe remains uncertain.
Main Cast Returning
Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) are all expected to return. A deal was announced earlier this year to bring the show back for the first time in 16 years. The script for the third movie has already been written, and producers are ready to begin filming as soon as Emily Atack signs on.
Emily Atack's Role Uncertain
Emily Atack has not yet confirmed her involvement. She has been busy with Disney's Rivals and a new BBC One legal drama, Reputation, and is awaiting a decision on a second series of ITV's Nobody's Fool with Danny Dyer. A source told The Sun: "The creators of the show have written the script and are ready to roll. Emily is one of the missing pieces in the project they're keen to get in place." The source added: "It's fair to say getting Emily back would be the cherry on the Inbetweeners cake."
Scheduling Challenges
Aligning the schedules of the main actors is another hurdle, as all have been busy with acting work and podcasts. However, sources say they are delighted to return. Last year, distributor Banijay UK and production company Fudge Park Productions, founded by creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, made an agreement that "paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title." In a statement, Morris and Beesley said: "Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."
Fans React
Fans were convinced something was brewing after Joe Thomas and James Buckley shared a cryptic Instagram post captioned "Working on something..." One fan speculated: "Inbetweeners 3?" Another suggested: "We need an Inbetweeners reunion. Set 10/15 years later. Jay gets married, and carnage ensues." Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Joe Thomas said: "I can't really say anything more than what's already been put out there, which is basically that a deal has been struck between Fudge Park and Banijay, which means that it's now possible to do more. I haven't seen anything from them about what that might be, so I'm sort of, to a certain extent, waiting to hear as well." The Mirror has approached Emily's spokesperson for comment.
