Channel 5 viewers witnessed a drastic turn in the penultimate episode of The Fortune, as Amanda Blakefield (Eleanor Tomlinson) faced a kidnap horror and family secrets were exposed. However, some fans were left unimpressed by the show's slow pacing.
Dark Turn After Boots' Death
On Tuesday night (June 9), the aftermath of Boots' (Stephen Tompkinson) unexpected death unfolded. Amanda fled to her husband, confessing she hadn't told the police about the shooting, fearing she'd be blamed. When she returned to Boots' home with her best friend Sandy (Danielle Walters), she was horrified to find his body missing and the house spotless.
As Amanda dashed away, the camera revealed Anthony Worrall (Callum Woodhouse) lurking in the shadows. Later, Anthony was shocked by his mother's confession: Amanda couldn't be his father's secret daughter because his father was infertile. She revealed that Boots was Anthony's biological father, and they had taken him in as a young boy.
Anthony's Dark Actions
Horrified and in denial, Anthony stormed out. He was later seen placing rocks into a bag containing Boots' dead body before dumping it in a lake. Is Anthony the killer, or is he covering for someone else?
Amanda's Kidnap Horror
Amanda faced more drama when her mother's care home called, saying she had escaped. Amanda knew she had been taken. The episode ended with Amanda's mother chatting to Amanda's husband Jimmy (Matthew Lewis) in the back of a taxi, his hands bound. They were speaking to the taxi driver who had driven Amanda multiple times.
Fan Complaints About Pacing
Despite the twists, some fans were unimpressed. One wrote: "#TheFortune #Channel5 Why is it so s-l-o-w!" Another said: "I really, really wanted to like this ... Waste of a good cast #thefortune channel 5." A third complained about the scheduling: "Can anyone remember Episode 2 of #thefortune? It's been so long since it was on."
However, one viewer praised the series: "Episode three of #TheFortune tonight. Should be good." The series concludes this week.
The Fortune continues Wednesday June 10 on Channel 5 from 9pm.
