The Chase Stars Address Show's Future After Filming Break

Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty, known as The Dark Destroyer and The Governess, have addressed the future of ITV's The Chase after a reported "filming break."

The pair are currently starring in The Chase Around The World, a spin-off series combining the quiz show with a Race Across The World-style twist. The final airs tonight (Thursday, August 20).

Return to Original Series

Shaun and Anne have spoken about their return to filming the original series of The Chase. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the show also features Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. It first aired in 2009 and has become a household staple, leading to spin-offs including Beat The Chasers and The Family Chase.

After filming The Chase Around The World, Anne hinted that The Chase could return to film a new series "in Autumn 2027."

Adaptability of the Brand

Shaun said: "From the day I did the first Chase, I’ve never taken it for granted. I don’t care how successful the formula is, the most successful shows are being pulled.

"So for me, let’s see. I think The Chase Around The World shows how adaptable the brand is. We’ve done The Family Chase, we’ve done Beat The Chasers which people love.

"We’ve now married two successful formats of a reality show with a top quiz show, and I’m telling you now, this show will be a success."

Filming Break Addressed

Anne had previously addressed the rumoured filming break after sources claimed the show had been "halted." It was understood that around 120 episodes are filmed each year in three separate stints, with breaks of around two months.

Addressing the rumours, Anne told The Sun in May: "We are taking a little bit of a filming break because we’ve got so many shows in the can, we’ve got hundreds of shows in the can.

"Last year we did two series of Beat the Chasers, which we were only supposed to do one. And it gives everyone time to do things. Bradley has things he wants to do, Jenny has her singing. I am interested in doing some acting, there is a film director interested in me."

The Chase Around The World continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
