Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty have spoken out about the future of The Chase following the launch of the spin-off series The Chase Around The World, which concludes tonight, Thursday, August 20.
The series combines the hit quiz show with a Race Across The World-style format, seeing Chasers meet teams of contestants across Europe as they race to win £100,000 by tackling quiz questions, puzzles and cryptic clues throughout their journey, according to Wales Online.
Fan Reaction to Spin-Off
Some fans were not convinced, calling the spin-off “dull” and “boring”, and instead requesting a new series of The Chase. One viewer wrote: “I've given The Chase Around the World an episode and a bit out of loyalty to The Chase, but it's just not doing it for me.” Another said: “This is so dull. They should've just made a new series of Beat the Chasers.”
However, one fan commented: “I just finished watching, and obviously lots will be starting, so I won't spoil it. It was different, fun and still nail-biting! Really enjoyed that!”
Future of The Chase
It had previously been claimed that The Chase was on a filming break, though Anne and Shaun exclusively addressed the show's future. Presented by Bradley Walsh, the quiz programme also features Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. It first launched in 2009 and has become a household favourite, spawning multiple spin-offs including Beat The Chasers and The Family Chase.
Following production on The Chase Around The World, Anne suggested that The Chase might resume filming a fresh series “in Autumn 2027”. Shaun added: “From the day I did the first Chase, I've never taken it for granted. I don't care how successful the formula is, the most successful shows are being pulled.”
Adaptability of the Brand
Shaun said: “So for me, let's see. I think The Chase Around The World shows how adaptable the brand is. We've done The Family Chase, we've done Beat The Chasers which people love. We've now married two successful formats of a reality show with a top quiz show, and I'm telling you now, this show will be a success.”
When asked if, after starring on The Chase Around The World, Shaun would consider the celebrity edition of Race Across The World, he quipped: “You never know, if the price is right!”
The Chase Around The World airs Thursday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
