Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were married in a Dior haute couture wedding gown designed by Jonathan Anderson, the Northern Irish creative director of the French fashion house. The union of America's pop sweetheart and her NFL superstar beau took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City over the Fourth of July weekend.
Dior Confirms the Design
Photographs have not yet been released, with Swift's team controlling the timing, but a Dior statement confirmed that Swift is the first bride for whom Anderson has created an haute couture gown since he joined Dior last year. The choice of a French fashion house was unexpected for the all-American wedding, as Swift's 2020 documentary Miss Americana and her engagement announcement with Kelce wearing Ralph Lauren suggested she might choose an American designer.
Details of the Wedding Attire
The bride and groom's looks were handmade in the Dior ateliers in Paris, created in close collaboration with the couple. Their bespoke shoes were by Christian Louboutin, and Swift's jewellery by Cartier, both French brands. The Dior dress marks an unexpectedly high-fashion choice for Swift, whose megastardom is built on relatability. Jonathan Anderson is known for high-concept, avant-garde designs, contrasting with Swift's girl-next-door image. However, in the months before the wedding, Swift was seen carrying Dior handbags on several occasions.
Equal Spotlight on Kelce's Fashion
The announcement notably highlighted wedding looks for both Swift and Kelce, rather than focusing solely on the bride. Fashion and style are at least as important to Kelce, who recently announced a collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, as they are to Swift.
Coup for Dior
Dressing what is considered America's royal wedding is a huge coup for Dior. The house faces rivalry with Chanel, which appointed new designer Matthieu Blazy around the same time Anderson joined Dior. Chanel scored a win by dressing Dua Lipa for her wedding last month, but Swift's Dior dress overshadows that in scale of coverage. Next week, both houses will present their next collections within 24 hours of each other at Paris haute couture fashion week.
