Tartan Army Adopts Boston Dog Toby as New Mascot

The Tartan Army has welcomed a new member to their clan, adopting a Boston dog named Toby as their mascot after he appeared in street celebrations wearing an adorable orange cone hat.

Toby's Viral Moment

The Yorkie dog, who has his own TikTok account and regularly enjoys days out with his owner in Boston, experienced perhaps the most exciting night of his life when he met thousands of Scottish fans who cheered his patriotic outfit.

Wearing his little cone hat, Toby and his owner visited multiple statues around the city that the Tartan Army had given a Duke of Wellington makeover. However, the pair were taken by surprise when Scots spotted Toby's outfit and welcomed him into their group.

The video included clips of the Tartan Army playing bagpipes and chanting in the street, with a girl telling Toby's owners: "Your dog is going to be famous now."

Going Viral

The post, with the anthem "No Scotland No Party" playing in the background, has since gone viral. Lorraine Kelly even re-shared the sweet footage on her Instagram Stories. The ITV presenter touched down in Boston, Massachusetts, ahead of Scotland's second World Cup match against Morocco.

Toby's video was captioned: "POV: Your dog wears a cone and gets adopted by the Tartan Army. After hearing that the Scots were giving Boston statues the Glasgow treatment, we made it our mission to find as many cone statues as possible… and had to wear his own cone too. What we didn’t expect was finding 1,000 new friends. The Tartan Army welcomed us with open arms, hugs, photos, songs, and so much joy. Even a police officer laughed and said, ‘Now even the dog has a cone!’ Great night, cozy vibes, and the warmest welcome. Thank you for making us feel part of it!! Safe to say Toby became an honorary Scot for the day."

Fan Reactions

Scots commented on the heartwarming video, with one joking: "Greyfriars Toby." Another chimed in: "No Toby, No Party…. No Toby, No Party…" A third wrote: "He's OUR dog now." Someone else shared a snap of their own dog in a Scotland top, asking: "Andi is asking if Toby is single? (she’s a girl, named after Andy Murray by the way)." A fourth replied: "Toby the honorary Scottish mascot for the match tomorrow."

Scotland will play Morocco at Boston Stadium tonight at 11pm BST after their 1-0 win against Haiti last weekend. After securing their first World Cup victory in 36 years on Saturday, June 13, tonight's match could see Scotland qualify for the first time in World Cup history if they beat or draw with Morocco.
