An overlooked horror movie is finally getting the recognition it deserves on streaming platforms. They Will Kill You, an action horror flick that has been likened to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill meets Ready or Not, failed to make an impact at the box office but is now a streaming hit.
Box Office Disappointment to Streaming Success
Released in cinemas back in March, They Will Kill You only brought in an estimated £14.2 million ($19 million) at the box office. However, after recently arriving on streaming platforms like HBO Max and NOW, it is getting a second chance. The movie holds the top slot on HBO Max in the US and is number two on HBO UK & Ireland.
Plot and Cast
They Will Kill You stars Zazie Beetz (known for Deadpool and Atlanta) as ex-convict Asia Reaves, who becomes a housekeeper at a mysterious New York City high-rise. Little does she know that her new job involves working for a satanic cult, which plans to offer her as their next human sacrifice. Asia must use her prison fighting skills to survive against the cult members while trapped in the deadly, booby-trapped mansion.
The film features an all-star cast, including Myha'la (HBO's Industry), Paterson Joseph (Green Wing, Noughts & Crosses), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Heather Graham (Austin Powers), and Patricia Arquette (Severance).
Audience Reactions and Comparisons to Tarantino
Audiences have praised the film for its bloody gore and nonstop action. One IMDb user wrote in a 10/10 review: "What an epic gory action horror film with nonstop action and nonstop violence... Zazie Beetz steals the show as the avenging angel in this hellish, total bloodbath instant classic from the mind of Kirill Sokolov... It's like watching a film from Quentin Tarantino and Sam Raimi."
Another reviewer gave it 9/10, stating: "Wow! I absolutely loved this movie! Hyper-stylistic and fun action like in Kill Bill." They added that the stunt sequences were "fantastically exciting" and concluded: "If you like these types of movies, then you will probably like this. I was thoroughly entertained."
A third person hailed it as "absolutely entertaining" and compared it to the work of Quentin Tarantino, saying: "I hope this will be a cult classic in the future. This is on the top of my 2026 watch list so far." Yet another viewer remarked: "We finally got a horror version of Kill Bill. This movie will go down as a classic cult movie most likely."
They Will Kill You is available to watch on NOW and HBO UK & Ireland.
