Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha Alahan on Coronation Street, lives a life far removed from her on-screen character's drama. The actress, who joined the soap in 2009, has been part of memorable storylines, including a recent date with Sienna, but off-screen she enjoys a quieter existence.
Early Life and Acting Career
Born on 9 June 2002 in Oldham, Greater Manchester, Tanisha grew up in a pub run by her parents. She had no acting experience before joining ITV's Coronation Street at age six. In an interview with The Saddleworth Independent, she revealed she was a child model at the time of casting and met the criteria. "I was asked to go for an audition and here I am still there 12 years later," she said. "It was never an ambition to be an actress but, after so long, I am comfortable in the role and happy to stay as long as they want me."
Relationship with Rarely-Seen Partner
Tanisha is engaged to her partner Lucas. She first went public with their relationship on her 18th birthday in 2020. Lucas described her as "the best girlfriend anyone could ask for," while Tanisha called him "the best thing I could've ever wished for." They made their red carpet debut together in 2021. Tanisha shared that Lucas was a great support during the filming of a car crash storyline involving Asha, Aadi, and Dev. "Before we started filming I was saying to my boyfriend I'm really scared - really overplaying it, like I'm going to be wet, I'm going to be cold - really, really being dramatic to make him feel sorry for me," she said in 2021. She added, "And then when I came home I underestimated how dramatic I was being, because wow it was something you cannot imagine, it was unreal. Four o'clock in the morning, absolutely drenched, freezing cold. It's definitely something I'll remember."
Home Ownership
In 2022, Tanisha and Lucas bought their first home together. She shared the news on social media, writing, "I can't quite believe we've bought our first home!!! Cue the typical pic hehe." The announcement received congratulations from former Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell, who commented "Congrats woooooo," and Kel Allen, who wrote "Yayyyyy home owners! A huge congratulations to you both." While the couple keeps most of their home private, Tanisha has shared pictures of their bright kitchen with white cabinets, grey marble-style countertops, and white subway tile backsplash.
Engagement
Earlier this year, Tanisha announced her engagement to Lucas. She was left emotional after he proposed during a romantic holiday. Sharing a picture of her diamond ring on Instagram, the 24-year-old told fans she was "still crying." Lucas had prepared a pink and white cake reading "just engaged" and decorated their hotel room with red and silver balloons, including one spelling "I love you." Tanisha captioned the post, "Brb still crying," accompanied by a tear, ring, and heart emoji.
