Tamzin Outhwaite opens up on co-parenting after Tom Ellis split

Tamzin Outhwaite has spoken candidly about the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband, actor Tom Ellis, describing his role in their children's lives as "in and out" due to his base in Los Angeles.

Appearing on the Parenting Hell podcast, the former EastEnders star, 54, reflected on the end of their nine-year marriage in 2014. She noted that her younger child, Marnie, was not yet one at the time. The couple also share a 17-year-old son, Flo, who is transgender.

Outhwaite discussed the difficulties of navigating family life after the split, and also spoke about her child's transition, which occurred around the age of 10 or 11. She described the early period as distressing, stating there were "dark times," but said the family sought outside help and worked through it together.

She expressed pride in her son's achievements, describing him as an "incredibly funny, intelligent boy" and a budding comedy writer. She also noted that her son is thriving, which brings her "relief and joy."

Since the divorce, Ellis has remarried, and Outhwaite's long-term relationship with filmmaker Tom Child recently ended. She referred to Child as her "best mate," adding that he remains a presence in their lives. The actress also commented on the broader public discourse around transgender rights, saying the LGBT community faces a "hard rap" at present, while emphasising that every situation is different.
