Tamzin Outhwaite Opens Up About Son's Gender Transition

Former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed that her eldest child, 17-year-old Flo, is transgender, sharing the family's journey in a candid podcast interview. The 54-year-old actress, who shares Flo and 12-year-old Marnie with ex-husband Tom Ellis, admitted she initially reacted with disbelief when Flo came out seven years ago.

Speaking on the Parenting Hell podcast, Outhwaite said she regrets her first response, which she described as thinking 'that's ludicrous'. She explained: 'The way I reacted at the very beginning I would love to change.' The family attended therapy together to navigate the transition, and Outhwaite noted that talking to others in similar situations was 'really, really helpful'.

Now, she says the household is 'full of jokes' and both children are thriving. Flo is pursuing acting, singing, writing and directing in his sixth form, while Marnie has been 'the most insightful' family member, referring to Flo as her brother from the age of six. Outhwaite's father also came around after initial concerns.

Reflecting on the change, Outhwaite said: 'I've got two kids and I did have two daughters and now I have a son and a daughter.' She described seeing her son flourish as 'nothing but relief and joy' after some difficult years.
