Suzanne Shaw and Darren Day Become Grandparents

Former Hear’Say singer Suzanne Shaw and actor Darren Day have become grandparents after their son Corey, 21, welcomed his first child. Shaw, 44, shared the news on Instagram, saying she was 'lost in pure love' while posing with her new grandson, Corey, and Day.

Shaw and Day had a brief romance in 2005 after meeting while starring together in the West End production of Summer Holiday. Day broke up with actor Adele Vellacot to start a relationship with Shaw, but they split 18 months later.

In her Instagram post, Shaw wrote a poem: 'Something beautiful, something true, My baby boy Corey, became a father, to a precious son, wrapped softly in blue.' She described the moment Corey arrived and how he changed her life, adding: 'And now here you stand, a father so strong, so kind, holding your own little boy.'

Shaw rose to fame as a member of Hear’Say, the band formed on reality series Popstars in 2000. Their debut single 'Pure and Simple' sold 1.3 million copies, becoming the fastest-selling non-charity track in the UK at the time. The band split in 2002 after just over a year together.

After Hear’Say, Shaw pursued a successful musical theatre career, starring in productions such as Summer Holiday, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Chicago, and White Christmas. She also appeared in ITV soap Emmerdale as Eve Birch and won Dancing on Ice in 2012.

Shaw has another son, Rafferty, 10, with ex-fiancé Sam Greenfield. She has remained friends with her former Hear’Say bandmates, saying in 2022: 'We're always going to have a bond, unlike any bond that I'll have with any other people in my life.'
