Susanna Reid has offered a glimpse into the Good Morning Britain team's sentiments regarding the romance rumours surrounding Kate Garraway and Liam Halligan. Two years after the heartbreaking death of her husband, Derek Draper, Kate appears to have found a new connection.
Kate Garraway's New Chapter
Derek Draper passed away in January 2024 following a prolonged health battle that began with a Covid-19 infection in 2020, which led to a heart attack and left him bed-bound. Kate was deeply affected by his death, but recent photographs of her with former GB News economics editor Liam Halligan at a charity cycling event in May have sparked hope among fans that she may have found love again.
In an interview with The Sun, Susanna Reid, Kate's colleague on GMB, shared that while she does not have detailed knowledge of whether Kate is dating Liam, the entire team wishes for her happiness. Susanna remarked: "We all love Kate. And she is our Bridget Jones – we just love her. And whatever makes Kate happy." She added that Kate is "brilliant at everything she does," whether conducting interviews, appearing on The Masked Singer as Spaghetti Bolognese, or being "flabbergasted" on Celebrity Traitors. Susanna described Kate as "100% brilliant."
Growing Closer to Liam Halligan
Speculation has been rife that Kate and Liam, a long-time friend of the couple, have been growing closer. When asked about the nature of their relationship, Liam said: "It's early days, we'll see what happens."
On 8 May, Kate was seen supporting Liam and his cycling partner Serge Kogan as they prepared for the Duchenne Dash, a charity ride from London to Paris raising funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a condition Liam was diagnosed with as a child. The trio posed for a photograph together.
While Kate was married to Derek for 19 years and shares two children with him, Liam has three children with his ex-wife, BBC journalist Lucy Ward. A source told Mail Online: "It's all very complicated, as you can imagine, for Kate who lost Derek not that long ago. She never thought she would be able to move on. But now she can see something. She is being calm but she does hope that she might be skipping down the road holding his hand at some point in the near future."
Kate's Readiness for Romance
In December 2025, Kate admitted to Jamie Laing on his podcast that she was open to finding romance again. She said: "I wouldn't like to think that I'd never had romantic love in my life again. I think that would be rather a sad way to go through life, wouldn't it? But, no, I'm not there yet. I don't know if anybody would want me." She joked: "Talk to your mates, find out if any of their dads are single. That's your task, Jamie." However, she clarified that dating apps are not for her, explaining: "I'm of the old school where you lived life, did things you loved and then met people along the way. But maybe that doesn't happen any more."
