Susan Boyle's Heartfelt Tribute to Bonnie Tyler

Susan Boyle has taken to social media to share a heartfelt tribute to singer Bonnie Tyler following the news of her passing on July 9. Describing the 75-year-old as an 'instant friend', Susan confessed that she was left heartbroken by the news.

Bonnie Tyler's Death Announced by Family

Bonnie Tyler's family announced earlier this week that the Welsh star had died in Portugal. This sad news came a few weeks after it was reported that the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer had been placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (July 10), Susan shared a carousel of snaps of herself and Bonnie. In the caption, the 65-year-old wrote: "Bonnie, I will forever hold dear our time together at the Vatican. You became an instant friend, like I had always known you."

Susan Boyle's Instagram Tribute

"Your personality matched your voice, one of a kind. I am heartbroken we won't be seeing you in August. Sending love and prayers to Robert, your loved ones and all your fans around the world. Rest in eternal peace, Bonnie."

Many of Susan's followers have also shared their own tributes in the comments section, as one person wrote: "Beautifully stated Miss Susan!" While another added: "God bless Bonnie. So sad, absolute legend. Lovely words Susan."

A third person also said: "Oh @susanboylemusic these photos are so beautiful. It looks like it was a wonderful time. I'm so sorry Bonnie passed away too. Life is too short. Maybe you could sing one of Bonnie's songs someday in her memory."

Bonnie Tyler's Health Struggles

Fear around Bonnie's health rose earlier this year when it was reported on March 6 that she had been hospitalised in Portugal. The singer was set to head out on a European tour later this year, however this had initially been postponed due to her health.

Sharing the sad news of Bonnie's passing on July 9, a statement on her Instagram reads: "Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for. We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy."

Other Celebrity Tributes

Other celebrities have also shared their own tributes to the singer, as Beverley Knight commented: "Desperately sad to read this. A tiny lady with a mammoth voice. A wonderful gift. Rest well Bonnie."

Bonnie's last TV appearance was on Lorraine in February this year. Sharing that she has had a "wonderful journey", she insisted that she never gets fed up with performing. At the time, host Lorraine Kelly spoke of the star's upcoming tour, saying: "What I love about you, as well, there's new music coming out, and that will be woven in, but you always, always do the big hits that everybody wants to hear."

Bonnie replied: "Yeah, and I love singing them. People say to me, 'Don't you get fed up?' No!" She added: "I often said, 'Next year I'm going to slow down,' but you know, I keep being able to do shows in great places and I love what I do. The [band] are great to be on the road with, we have a good time. On stage, as well, we have a lot of fun... I've had a wonderful journey."

Bonnie leaves behind her husband Robert Sullivan, who she married in 1973. The couple never went on to have children.
