Noel Fitzpatrick, the television star known as The Supervet, has revealed the death of his beloved dog Keira after she was hit by a van. The terrier, who had been by his side for 13 years, died following surgery for her injuries.
In an extract from his new book, Fitzpatrick described the moment of the accident on September 18, 2020. He was leaving his practice with Keira when a delivery van struck her. He heard 'the cracking and ripping of bones breaking and flesh tearing' as she screamed.
Keira was rushed into surgery at Fitzpatrick's own practice. Scans showed her pelvis was crushed, her hip dislocated, and she had separated the ilium from the sacrum. Despite initial stabilisation, she later died after surgery.
Fitzpatrick said Keira had been a constant companion through the most testing times of his life, including after he broke his neck. He described her unconditional love as something that 'glued him back together'.
The Supervet has saved hundreds of animals on his Channel 4 show. He also has a Maine Coon cat named Ricochet, who remains with him.
