The final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is set to deliver an emotional conclusion, with star Lola Tung hinting that viewers should prepare for a deeply affecting end to Belly's story. The Amazon Prime Video series, now in its third and final outing, has been building towards a dramatic finale, with just four episodes remaining.
Tung, who plays Belly, spoke about the character's evolution across the show, noting the significant changes she has undergone. 'She's been through a lot these past couple seasons. She's experienced grief, love, and changes in every one of her relationships, with the boys, with her brother, with her best friend, and with her mom,' she told Deadline.
The actress also revealed that a substantial time jump in the new season allowed her to bring fresh insight to the role. 'There's a huge time jump and people don't get to see what happens in those years,' she explained. 'As an actor, you craft what you think happens, what you think changed, and where this character is now. It was really cool to do that, especially because I am playing my own age now.'
Tung credited the industry strike for giving the cast time to grow independently from their characters. 'We had a year off because of the strike, so we had time to grow on our own and separate from the characters, and then come back to bring everything that we had learned on our own to the characters,' she said.
Creator Jenny Han has previously hinted that the TV ending may differ from the books, adding to the anticipation surrounding Belly's eventual choice. Music remains a central element of the final chapter, with Taylor Swift's songs continuing to play a significant role in the narrative.
